Our Morphing Love

2009 was an adrenaline-fuelled year, for one reason or another.  I wrote this song a few years ago and the painting came soon after; prompted by vivid dreams. I was delighted to discover Rodney Nombekana's photos of Kevin Richardson and the lioness Meg in the water. It felt like the painting and music were coming to life.

Cat's Cradle Twisters: Hamon - oil on board, 50 x 50 cm

'Hamon' is Japanese, meaning 'ripple, ring on the water'.
It also means 'blade pattern' in terms of Japanese swords.

Our Morphing Love

The wildest dream; you touch me and I ripple
It's your turn now in our game of cat's cradle
How you can touch me when I'm sleeping
I'm seeing flames dance in the machine

One night will catch us wishing; pulling our strings together
One night will catch us calling ocean twisters to us
Our morphing love

Oh, I can sing to wild horses
Curl myself up into a ball
You can send a bomb to wake me
You can laugh at my scattering soul

One night will catch us wishing; pulling our strings together
One night will catch us calling ocean twisters to us
Our morphing love

Whirled around unfolding to our love
The fractures flicker in the heat
Twisting up a the midnight sky
